Planting Time

Every year, at the beginning of winter, I do two things to make sure my spring is filled with as much muscle soreness as possible.

    1.  Sign up for a half-marathon in May.
    2.  Buy more garden seeds than last
          year.

This year was the ultimate set-up....

     1.  LAST year I hadn't necessarily
trained for the run, but I'd been
          consistently running a few miles
          three times a week.
     2.  LAST year I ordered lots of seeds
but I started them myself in my
          south window, therefore only a
fraction made it to "planting" size.

THIS year:
     1.  I hadn't run even a mile since
         January.
     2.  My friend Ginny, a.k.a. The Green
Goddess, planted my seeds in her
          greenhouse.  Guaranteed growth
          with that combination!!!

When I got the call, "Come get your plants.  Bring the truck and a few helpers", I was a little nervous.  Rightly so.  FOUR truckloads later I had the tomatoes at the farm...just the tomatoes!!  And they weren't your little "oh, aren't they cute" little plants.  These were "why are you still living with your parents" HUGE!!
Bad picture...beautiful plants.

For those of you who have planted tomatoes before, you may or may or know that the plant should be planted deep...very deep...like almost buried to it's eyeballs.
Over a hundred very tall plants...over a hundred very deep holes....13.1 miles....dilemma.....

I didn't know whether to run to Ginny and kiss her or punch her in the face and run for my life.

I decided I can't do either.  I CAN'T MOVE MY LEGS!!!!!!
