They were willing, but not overly enthusiastic. I tried singing various versions of "Row, Row, Row your Boat" inserting garden/farm words instead of water/stream words. Not only did they not appreciate my efforts, the older kids decided to insert their own "unrated" words. It started out humorous and quickly descended to inappropriate!!
The goal was to get all rows placed before planting anything. Fail. It takes so much work to cover that black fabric and we needed to get our early crops in the ground. Only so many hours in the day!
The critics on this farm like to saunter by and offer "support" like this:
- "These rows are pretty crooked"
- "Are you SURE you want it that
thick?"
- "That doesn't look very pretty"
I inform them, and all of you, that my garden and I have one thing in common.....The farther away you stand, the better we look!!!
Here's a picture taken from our upper pasture.
Not bad, huh? It's missing the green, but it will come!! Knowing that is only about 1/5 of the garden, it's awesome and exhausting at the same time!
